cabelo caucasiano para posterior carboniza{\c{c}}{\~a}o e sua
transforma{\c{c}}{\~a}o como material carbonoso, tendo em vista
a produ{\c{c}}{\~a}o de material carbonoso ativado a partir de
mat{\'e}ria-prima proveniente de res{\'{\i}}duos. Algumas das
etapas consistem na convers{\~a}o do cabelo em feltro e a
posterior oxida{\c{c}}{\~a}o, com objetivo de eliminar o
c{\'o}rtex e promover liga{\c{c}}{\~o}es cruzadas entre as
cadeias de prote{\'{\i}}nas; esse processo permite transformar o
cabelo em material termofixo, al{\'e}m de promover a
evapora{\c{c}}{\~a}o do c{\'o}rtex capilar, deixando o
filamento oco. Como etapa sequente, temos a
carboniza{\c{c}}{\~a}o e a ativa{\c{c}}{\~a}o do material
obtido. Tais condi{\c{c}}{\~o}es indicam que o cabelo caucasiano
pode tornar-se uma fibra de carbono ativada de alta {\'a}rea de
superf{\'{\i}}cie e elevada capacidade de adsor{\c{c}}{\~a}o,
caracter{\'{\i}}sticas desej{\'a}veis para uma futura
aplica{\c{c}}{\~a}o como peneira molecular. ABSTRACT: This work
presents the steps preparation of the Caucasian hair, for later
carbonization and its transformation as carbonaceous material,
aiming the production of a carbonaceous material activated from a
raw material coming from residues. Some of the steps are the
conversion of hair into felt and the subsequent oxidation which
aims to eliminate the cortex and promote crosslinking between the
protein chains. This process allows the hair to be transformed
into a thermoset, as well as to promote evaporation of the hair
cortex, leaving the hollow filament. As a sequential step,
carbonization and activation of the obtained material was carried
out. Such conditions indicate that Caucasian hair can become an
activated carbon fiber of high surface area and high adsorption
capacity, desirable characteristics for a future application as
molecular sieve.",
